MODULE 12

MODULE TWELVE
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN L1 AND L2 LEARNING

In the unit twelve we saw the differences between learning the mother tongue or (1)first language and a foreign language. I learnt to distinguish both learning types and the factors that influences on the process, such as: the age, for the l1 babies learn the language and at the same time they are developing the (2)cognitive skills, however in the l2 they have already formed them. Moreover in l1 the feel (3)motivated due to the necessity to communicate, and in l2 adults specially have (4)expectation about how the language is used and they might not be so motivated as in the example of l1. . I would apply the knowledge in a teaching situation respecting the (5)silent period , to not make my students feel forced to learn the language. I would also bring my students the necessary(6) exposure in order to (7)pick them up the language, and finally help my students with activities to teach them inductively the language, providing them(8) chunks to make sentences.

MODULE 11

MODULE ELEVEN
THE ROLE OF ERROR

The unit eleven talked about the role of the (1) error and the importance for students experimenting with the language to be aware of their mistakes. I learnt two types of mistakes: the (2) errorwhich cannot be corrected by the same students while the (3) slips can be corrected by themselves. (4) Fossilization can occur when students don´t have the necessity to improve their language, so they don´t correct their mistakes, and it is stated by Richard W. Schmidt ""a process whereby certain linguistic items become relatively incorporated into the grammatical system of learners" (p 165) that is why (5) exposure is important to be in contact with the language. This also helps students to have (6) accuracy in their communication, because they practice and practice to get perfection. I would apply the knowledge in a teaching situation making them repeating the word that is incorrect which is a (7) reformulation process, then I would make my students to (8)focus on form in order to make emphasis in the grammatical structure.

MODULE 10

MODULE TEN
EXPOSURE AND FOCUS ON FORM

The unit ten was about the importance of exposure in the way learners understand and learn the (1)target language.  I learnt that it is vital to give our students a period where they can be receptive learners letting them to use a (2)silent period. Then, the interaction with other people is also important to (3)acquire the language. Interaction lets students to communicate successfully by adding new words to their vocabulary using their own thoughts which means (4) paraphrasing. As teachers we should know the (5) learning style of our students, their tastes at learning would help to select the best activities for them, as for example: visual learners would love to (6) highlight the text in order to understand better. As it state  Gavin Rein "Relatively stable indicator of a person preferences of a cognitive and environmental learning preference" (p 7).Combining the teaching of (7) form and the exposure could benefit students to have grammatical bases and the ability to speak. . I would apply the knowledge in a teaching situation making my students (8)noticing the grammatical features of a text while they reading.

MODULE 9

MODULE NINE
MOTIVATION

The unit nine was about (1) motivation and how this factor influences the learning process. I consider that as future teachers this unit helped me to understand the importance of this factor in the way how well students learn a language. There are some aspects that as teachers must know about the benefits of motivation on students such as: (2)The (3)confidence,  it help students to improve their skills because it gives the feeling that they can do whatever they want. (4)Autonomy , is the way students learn by their own because they have control in their learning. What we can do for our students is to create a good environment in our classroom point out the purpose of every (5) task, we can use enjoyful activities using the (6) coursebook and always remember our students the importance of learning another language could (7)encourage our leaners to have a successfull participation in the language course. I would apply the knolwdge in a teaching situation using authentic material in the class and then giving (8) feedback and (9)praising my students if they have a positive attitude toward the subject.
